God Is Never Tired - Andrew K. Putnam

One of the common themes I keep hearing in, both from within the church and without, is- “I’m tired of all of this.” It’s funny that they don’t have to explain what “this” is. We all seem to know. People are tired of wearing masks, social distancing, limiting attendance, worrying about getting sick (or loved ones), working from home, zoom meetings, and isolation. Add to this all of the social, political, and economic strife flooding the news, social media, and conversations. The daily wrestling with intense emotions, day after day, is wearing people out. Tensions are higher, and conflict is greater in our nation, communities, and homes.

University Psychology departments are identifying this and calling it “Pandemic Fatigue.” I’m sure many in the Christian church, perhaps even in leadership roles, are experiencing this. Some may be suffering and trying to hide it, out of concern that they might appear weak in their faith or somehow ‘less’ a Christian than they should be.

First of all, If you are tired, worn down, and exhausted, know that all of that is part of the human condition. We are but temporary jars in a broken and fallen world. At it’s best, we may have times of great strength, thought, or faith- but as we are mortal, what depends upon us, can and will eventually weaken. Stone and steel become worn over time, and so do we.

As Charles Spurgeon said,

“Let every man know therefore that whatever his strength may be, of body, mind, or spirit, if it be his own it will fail him one day. On the other hand, what a contrast there is as to divine strength! That never fails.”

Consider Isaiah 40:28–31

[28] Have you not known? Have you not heard?

The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

[29] He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. [30] Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; [31] but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up with wings like eagles;

they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

As the elect child of GOD, you have access to the very throne room of the creator! With Jesus Christ interceding upon your behalf! What a tremendous comfort this can be when we dwell upon what God’s Word tells us, instead of the latest posts on the internet. The Lord never fails. He does not grow weary or fatigued. His plan is being carried out today, and He holds tomorrow in the palm of His hand. It is not up to us to fully comprehend the events in our world but to know that GOD does. Do not feel like you must have all the answers, but rejoice that you have a relationship with Him who does.

Our task is to put our trust and faith in He who made and sustains everything.

As Proverbs 3:5-6 says,

 [5] Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. [6] In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

We can find strength, comfort, and peace through our relationship with the Lord. Our contentment does not rest upon the latest news, fad, or purchase. Praise be to God! So as you may find all of the things going on around you now wearisome, I would encourage you to focus your attention, time, and effort towards God’s word and your relationship with our sovereign Lord.

We must also see the tremendous opportunity that the church has been given as a witness to God Almighty's everlasting and unchanging love in the midst of these troubling times. I would challenge my brothers and sisters to be fervent in prayer, diligent in study, and intentional in your winsome witness.
