Synod Week - Seventeen82 Staff


The General Synod of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church will be meeting Thursday and Friday of next week in Columbia, South Carolina. This will be a unique meeting of the Synod both in location and in routine. Please be in prayer for this meeting of the Synod. 

Over the next few days, www.seventeen82.com will be publishing articles from those around the ARP denomination, giving opinions and thoughts about the upcoming meeting of Synod. It has always been our desire to see this site as a platform for different points of view. These will be published to help better understand, pray for, and vote on the issues before our Synod. There will also be a recap of Synod's actions next Saturday.

A common problem in our conservative Presbyterian circles is that some members of the PCA believe they not only invented American presbyterianism, but that they and the OPC are the only actual members of the party.   One of the most common exceptions taken in the ARP (and the PCA  et al ) by newly ordained men and those taking transfer exams in presbytery is without a doubt a certain clause in the explanation to Westminster Larger Catechism #109. This mainly concerns the prohibition against making mental images of the Godhead, especially the Second Person, in accordance with the catechism’s teaching on the Second Commandment. Growing as a Christian - James McManus

My wife and I have 3 children - two daughters, 12 years and 8 years old, and a son, 4 years old. We love them all very dearly, and only what is the very best for them. Part of that means, as a Christian father, I want to see them grow in the Christian faith. They were all baptized as infants - even better than that, they were all baptized as ARP babies ;) Many of us understand that the sacrament of infant baptism doesn’t save, and we still want to hear that testimony of faith from those who were baptized. But, also part of that sacrament is the teaching of the Christian faith to those covenant children, and that is something my wife and I take seriously. We WANT our 3 children to grow as much spiritually as they are physically, emotionally and mentally.
